How to create a post

Choose a community, pick the post type that matches your intent, and write a clear title.

Select Create (or the + button on mobile) from anywhere on the platform.

The four things a post needs

  1. A community. Post where the people who can help you are. If you are not sure, the community's description says what belongs there.
  2. A post type. This is not decoration — it tells readers what kind of response you want. A Question invites answers and can have one marked as accepted; a Discussion invites opinions. See The six post types.
  3. A title. Between 5 and 300 characters. This is the single biggest factor in whether anyone opens your post. Write the question you would type into a search box — "Why does my Somtel router drop at night?" rather than "Need help please".
  4. A body. Up to 20,000 characters, written in Markdown, so you can use headings, lists, links, code blocks, and images.

Getting good answers

  • Say what you already tried. It saves everyone from suggesting it again.
  • Include the specifics — versions, error messages, your city if it matters.
  • One question per post. Two questions in one post usually get one answer.
  • Add tags. They are how people who know the subject find your post.

Before you publish

You can preview your post, and you can edit it after publishing. There is a limit of 10 posts per hour, which no ordinary use will ever reach — it exists to stop spam.
